Mental Rehabilitation
1.1. Life clubs.
LIRI establishes clubs as safe spaces for children and youth prone to substance abuse and mental health challenges to receive information share and have peer support to deal with the challenges they face. The clubs have leaders and champions to guide them and have routines to enable them operate regularly. These clubs are established in school and communities where LIRI works.
1.2. Let them know.
This program focuses on creating awareness in mental health in the wider communities to reduce the stigma and discrimination attached to it as well as promote supportive structures for treatment and recovery. Communities include families, schools, workplaces and direct mental health service providers. Awareness is promoted through media using radios, podcasts, television and social media. LIRI also develops key awareness messages to further engage the public on mental health issues.
1.3. Around the fire place
LIRI believes in the power of storytelling and documentation to address substance abuse and mental health challenges faced by children and youth. Around the fire place is a monthly sharing space for children and youth to tell their story. These sessions are done around the fire place and documented through filming, writing and photography. These stories are shared on social media, television, radio, news articles for learning, sharing and advocacy.
1.4. Cup of tea
This is a monthly podcast where we host a team comprising of mental health professionals, social workers, youth, children, the affected and any selected person to have a round table discussion on mental health over a cup of tea. The mp3and mp4 files are shared on our webpage and social media platforms for knowledge and experience sharing.
1.5. Group therapy
At LIRI, we do group therapy for recovery. The group therapy sessions are done information giving, storytelling, role play, film shows, picture storytelling and peer to peer support.
1.6. Individual counselling
We also provide individual counselling sessions for children and young people. At our training centre, we have counselling place where children and youth are counselled with confidentiality.
1.7. Referrals
Through networks created with mental health practitioners and organization, LIRI provides referrals for children and young people with mental issues. They are provided with medical treatment.
1.8. Healing ART
LIRI uses different ARTS to promote mental healing and coping with life stresses that cause youth to be inclined to substance abuse. ARTs include dance, music, drawing, photography. These are done as school and community programs. Children and youth actively participate in this program.
1.9. Healthy spirits
This is an annual camp to help children and youth to heal. This entirely focuses on spiritual activities.
1.10. Mind boost camp
Annual gate away weekend for team building and sharing at a campsite. Sports and recreational activities to rejuvenate keep a healthy mind and be with one another
1.11. Care for them
LIRI has a training centre for children with learning needs with focus on ECD. We also run a K- 12 student development curriculum that gives these children an exceptional learning opportunity with an individualised approach and measurable results. For sustainability, children pay a small fee per term. LIRI looks forward to see that despite their emotional, psychological and mental health challenges, these children also have an opportunity to quality education and be able to contribute to the society.

LIRI provides training programs to teachers who are directly working with children with special educational needs. LIRI trains them in user friendly education delivery modes as well as provide information for them on how to handle these children effectiveness. LIRI also engages school authorities to put in place mechanisms that support a conducive learning environment for children with special education needs.
